2.2. APPLICATIONS
The technologies that support telemedicine are just as important as its applications in various categories, the following points highlight these applications and some of the technologies that are being used in their implementation.
2.2.1. Rural Telehealthcare programs
Most challenges in rural healthcare provision stem from the cost of employing and retaining specialists and sometimes even general physicians. Telemedicine solves this issue by allowing these rural areas access to medical personnel regardless of their locations by utilizing technologies paired with medical devices. Video transmission technologies and applications enable medical personnel to examine patients like they would in a brick and mortar building so they are able to provide assessments, diagnoses, and treatments which can be administered

Implementation issues related to Technology
The technological infrastructure that is used to support and implement telemedicine is always changing and can be hard to keep up with, the frequency of advances in information technology means that to fully utilize all the functions of an application, there will be a need to constantly upgrade.
3.1.1. User needs and circumstances
Because of the different applications of telemedicine, the technology or combination of technology necessary to implement them vary. There are some situations where store-and-forward may be satisfactory for consultations while a real-time connection may be needed for others. For example, a consulting radiologist may need a very sophisticated and expensive display unit that is capable of showing extremely fine gradations in images while an attending physician may be able to consult with a lower resolution.
3.1.2. Complex Technologies
The complexity of advanced technologies makes significant demands when planning, deploying, sustaining and evaluating information and telecommunications systems and programs. There are some challenges arising from
