What does it mean to be an American to you? To me being an American means that you have the American spirit and if you are an american citizen. Of course there are conflicts on who should be able to live in America and who should be an American citizen. I think everyone should have the ability if they are able to pay for a place to live and a job should come to America. Just like with everything else if you look past the dirty cover then you could see the shining gold inside and the good people that come with it.

To me what it means to be an American is that you are ‘free’ not completely free but free to choose your job, to have to have at least a good education, free to vote for your president. To be an American doesn't mean you have to be born in America, if you abide by the rules and strengthen america with your own skills and knowledge you are a American. Of course anything has a good and bad side, it is possible to be a good or bad American. Some people classify bad Americans by not pledging allegiance to the flag, being prejudice against whatever, and most importantly not respecting fellow americans. Some people think that if you weren't born in America you can't possibly be an American. The people leaving their past life behind and paying all of their money on a one way plane ticket to America are just as American as the people born in America.
