"What role should the government have in monitoring the internet? Today’s society is affected and productive by social media. I do not think the government should be in control of the internet. Reason being because I believe we should go by our first amendment, freedom of speech and freedom of the press. Social media is an option. The government nor schools should not have the right to have a tab of students social media. Social media is an option. Studies have shown that the majority of our country uses social media everyday for several hours a day. The government should not be able to monitor everything we do online. I believe that if anyone feels unsafe on social media they should log off. No one can be forced to stay online. You can keep your family electronic free to prevent them from being exposed to the internet. …show more content…
We should also protect the first amendment. Anyone should be able to express themselves how they’d like on the internet. The first amendment is one of the most cherished amendments made by the constitution throughout the United States. Monitoring the internet would go against this amendment. What one person considers offense, may not be offensive to another person. An issue that may appear big when adding monitoring to the internet might be the cost of government spending. The government spending will increase dramatically. Parents would be concerned with their children’s school work. I, myself use the internet and sometimes even social media for homework and to find articles for research papers. Starting in about 6th grade is when students begin to use social media for school purposes, you also use it through high school, and most of the time you use it in college as well.
