Should Barbie be banned? When it comes to views of how girls and young women think, Barbie is considered to be the perfect image for their looks. But is that really true? According to statistics, Barbie only causes harm to women. Creating an unrealistic body image, causing eating disorders, and making a make believe fairy tale are just a few reasons why Barbie should be banned.
From her release in 1959, Barbie was an instant success; however, it only takes one look at Barbie to tell that her body type is unrealistic. It is a literal term. Kids, teens, and women all over the world are starving themselves and struggling with eating disorders. While trying to obtain their Barbie body, women are taking outragous steps eventually leading to death. "The numbers are stunning: Four out of five 10-year-olds say that they're afraid of being fat. 42% of girls in first through third grade wish they were thinner. And, half of girls aged 9 or 10 claim that they feel better about themselves when they're dieting," (Drug Rehab). Children at such a young age should not be worrying about how much they weigh or what they look like. "Young girls are feeling more pressure than ever before to achieve the Barbie weight due to the images seen in our daily media of celebrities who strive to look thin and 'beautiful.' Little do girls know that Barbie is an unrealistic and dangerous size," (Fairy Tale). Anarexica and Bulinma are leading causes in death when it comes to young girls making sacrifices to have that perfect Barbie body. Looking like Barbie is not worth loosing ones life over. "Don't be afraid to tell your friends: 'you'd rather be alive than be Barbie'," (Drug
