Explain Why Children Should Not Play Sports Essay

Did you know that the leading cause of death from a sports-related injury is a brain injury? A lot of children are suffering from injuries that affect their lives forever. Although playing youth sports may be beneficial, I believe children should not play competitive sports. I feel this way because sports can cause life-long injuries, children are put under too much pressure, and sports can interfere with academics.
I think the most pressing reason children shouldn’t play competitive sports is because sports can cause life-long injuries. In the article, “Should Kids Play Football?” it states that years after playing football, “NFL players experience Alzheimer's-like symptoms.” These NFL players’ experiences show how competitive sports can cause life-long injuries/symptoms of injuries. In the article from NBC News, “Pushing Too Hard Too Young” it says, “Experts in sports science are concerned about pressure put on some kids to excel.” This shows that this is a problem that experts even notice. Also from the article “Pushing Too Hard Too young” it tells, “Recently, one of her players, a 7-year-old boy, hit the boards during an indoor game and was holding his head. His father, a former soccer player himself, went over but instead of asking him how he was feeling, scolded him for playing poorly.” This boy’s experience shows how some parents are focused too much on winning and push their kids to be as good as they were.
