Romeo & Juliet is a play written by William Shakespeare. Romeo & Juliet should not be taught at schools because it shows how irrelevant it is to the 20th century and it shows that suicide is an option to not feel pain anymore . I can see why people would like it to be taught because it shows a great way of expression in writing. Romeo & Juliet have been around for many centuries, we all know Romeo & Juliet story. It’s about these adolescents fighting for their love and ended up killing each other. Many movies, plays, musicals, and operas were made in different styles to create more modern Romeo & Juliet. Schools want to promote living to do wondrous things in life and not to kill yourself if something goes wrong. In “from How Shakespeare Changed Everything” it states “that it is only a slight exaggeration to say that he invented teenagers as we know them today.” It is saying that teenagers act that way now days and for something so stupid. That's why schools should not teach this because it brings a greater chance for it to be continuing. It also states “People just love to watch a couple of dumb kids make out and die. And they are awfully young…” It is sad to see our society react that way to something so tragic. Schools cannot allow this type of thinking into the adolescence in this century.
Lastly, Shakespeare is not a considerable poet. In “On the Bard’s birthday, is Shakespeare still relevant?” It states “high school student are forced to consult books like “No Fear Shakespeare,” which drains all the poetry out in hopes of make him moderately comprehensible.” Not all students like the style of Shakespeare and when they have to read his poems, they think he dishonored poetry.
