Everyone has experienced passionate feelings, whether it be love, hate or something else. Anyone living will indefinitely feel extreme passion in one point in their live. Feelings like this can cloud a persons judgement and cause them to act on impulses. This results in extreme situations that can result in complications and problems. This idea is explored in Shakespeare's, Romeo and Juliet. This play intends to prove that passion can lead to extreme circumstances. Through Romeo, Juliet and the feud between the Capulet family and the Montague family the play demonstrates that extreme love or hate can be responsible momentous situations. Passion provoking extreme actions is first shown when Romeo and Juliet marry. They decide to wed after meeting each other, the previous night. They request for Friar Lawrence to marry them and being a responsible adult he is reluctant but eventually agrees, saying “For, by your leaves, you shall not stay alone Till Holy Church incorporate two in one” (Shakespeare 2.6.37-40). There extreme love towards each other causes them to get married very quickly. When Tybalt takes Mercutio’s life, Romeo has a tremendous amount of hate towards Tybalt and his Capulet family, combined with a love for Mercutio, whom he would never see again. Romeo says “Either thou, or I, or both, must go with him” (Shakespeare 3.1.137). Romeo is basically saying that he will fight Tybalt to the death to avenge Mercutio. In this moment he doesn’t think about who he may be hurting. Romeo kills Tybalt leaving a situation with two people dead and Romeo being forced to leave.
