When Tybalt takes Mercutio’s life, Romeo has a tremendous amount of hate towards Tybalt and his Capulet family, combined with a love for Mercutio, whom he would never see again. Romeo says “Either thou, or I, or both, must go with him” (Shakespeare 3.1.137). Romeo is basically saying that he will fight Tybalt to the death to avenge Mercutio. In this moment he doesn’t think about who he may be hurting. Romeo kills Tybalt leaving a situation with two people dead and Romeo being forced to leave.
