When it comes to the issue of climate change, it always sparks controversy due to the fact that there are people who don’t agree with the issue. The relationship between climate change and extreme heat events was researched in order to see how they can affect one’s health. The similarity of climate change and extreme heat have been established and it’s already known that too much exposure to extreme heat is a significant health problem and the primary cause of mortality that is weather related in the United States which are responsible for more deaths than any other natural disaster. According to the article it says, “Although all heat-related deaths and illness are preventable, many people succumb to extreme heat every year. Over a 5-year period, from 1999 to 2003, a total of 3442 heat-related deaths were reported in the U.S. (an annual average of 688).” A long exposure to very high …show more content…
In addition to classic heat stroke, deaths from cardiovascular and respiratory diseases have been shown to rise.” This example helps to show the relationship of deaths by extreme heat and cardiovascular and respiratory deaths which is that heat related illnesses can cause various symptoms and make existing medical conditions worse.
Another strength that was found in the article was such as of demographic trends. With demographic trends being represented in the article help to understand if there is any ethnicity or age factor that can be key to the issue being stated. According to the article, “Advanced age represents one of the most significant risk factors for heat-related death in the U.S. In addition to having diminished thermoregulatory and physiologic heat-adaptation ability, the elderly are more likely to live alone, have reduced social contacts, and experience poor health.” When it comes to extreme heat illness, elderly people are the most vulnerable due to the fact that they have poor health conditions and they have different illnesses
