The Great Gatspy differences and similarites

What are three things that you noticed that were different from the movie The Great Gatspy and the book? The book and the movie are different because they have different points of view. The book is from the view of F.Scott Fitzgerald. Were the movie viewpoint is from Baz Luhrmann’s viewpoint of the book.This is where the differences come into play, Luhrmann would change things to make it more of his thinking of the book. Therefore, here are some of the differences and similarities.

In the book Gatspy knew that she would not be his. He knows this cuase when she was supposed to call him , he does not receive a message. As said “No telephone message arrived…”(Fitzgerald 161). That is when he knew for sure that she would not be his. However in the movie Gatspy is still very hopeful that daisy will be his. He hears the phone ring and starts to exist the pool as if it is daisy calling to say that she will leave Tom. Then as he is getting out he pauses when he hears the butler say “ I know Mr. Gatspy will be very happy that you’ve called.” (The Great Gatspy). As he hear this he is then shot in the back by George who he thinks hit Myrtle. He softly says daisy’s name in his dieing breath.

In the book nick has self control. This means that he is a straight laced men that does not appear to get into trouble. “ I have only been drunk only twice in my life , and the second time was that afternoon…” ( Fitzgerald 29). Although in the book he seems to be a straight laced man the movie shows different. The way that nick loses control in the movie suggests that he is not in control and not a straight laced man after all. The party that they had in the apartment is wild.
