“How could they see anything but the shadows if they were never allowed to move their heads?” This quote from plato’s allegory of the cave is a great quote that can apply to both Fahrenheit 451 and Plato’s Allegory of the Cave. Plato's Allegory of the cave is an allegory or a story that can have a hidden meaning that plato told to illustrate prisoners in a cave. This allegory has a much deeper meaning than just prisoners in a cave. It illustrates a controller and prisoners who sometimes don’t even know they are being controlled and lies and many other elements. All that they can see are shadows. They assume that this is all that the world consists of because that's all that they have ever known. In Fahrenheit 451, Montag lives in a world where everyone watches tv screened walls obsessively. They even have up to four tv walls in one room. In the book Montag's wife, Mildred is trying to convince Montag to let her buy their fourth tv wall. Montag is upset over this because they are still making payments on their third wall. Mildred doesn't understand this because the walls are all she knows and that is what she thinks life is all about and what happiness is. It is a wake up call, saying, look what you are doing with your lives! Don’t you want to do more than sit around all day and watch the “walls”? We need to think about what our society is coming too, and change our whole perspective on the things we view the world as. T.V is not a well representation of our world. We are much better than what is portrayed in that. Ray Bradbury's, Fahrenheit 451, was a book that showed how much we need to rethink what we are doing with our time. Fahrenheit 451 was making a point on how education is very important and how we need to teach people to not just watch the shadows, but to actually go after them and learn something out of our world. The quote from the beginning that was from the allegory of the cave, is telling how people are in a prisoner position and are not allowed to move. They are on the slippery slope. After that they won’t learn and they won't potentially be able to grow.
