“If god treats you well by teaching you a disastrous lesson, you never forget it” (Bradbury). If our modern day society does become like the dystopia from Fahrenheit 451, no one will ever forget it and the change it caused. There are multiple differences in Ray Bradbury’s book, Fahrenheit 451, and our modern day. Some are more obvious than others like, firemen burning down houses and mechanical hounds that can hunt down book criminals by smell. However, there are also many similarities in both of the worlds. Continuing on the topic of firemen, there are multiple differences in the way the dystopic firemen act in comparison to the way our firemen do. Our firemen help put out fires, take people to hospitals, and just all around help people in need. For example, in both modern day and the dystopia TV’s rule over literature. In the dystopia they have TV’s that are the size of whole walls and have seashell earbuds that keep them up to date with the world. We may not have seashell earbuds for keeping up with the news, but we have some TV’s that are also the size of walls. Also, it is found that the average American over the age of two spends more than thirty-four hours a week watching television. Another similarity is that both worlds have around 20ft billboards. In Fahrenheit 451 Clarisse asks Montag a question about the billboards. ‘”Did you know that once billboards were only twenty feet long? But cars started rushing by so quickly they had to stretch the advertising out so it would last”’ (Bradbury 7). Both worlds have high speed limits that make it so cars drive by so fast that the advertising companies have to make their billboards longer so that people can actually see and read
