Fahrenheit 451, a science fiction novel by Ray Bradbury, is about a utopian society in the future. By comparing and contrasting two seemingly different societies, one can determine that a utopian society cannot truly exist. While there are many similarities and differences within Fahrenheit 451 and modern society, some that stood out were the amount of people that use drugs to forget about their problems, people trying to be the same as each other, and people using destruction to let out their anger.

In both the novel and in real life people use destruction to help them get through anger. In Fahrenheit 451, we see how kids like to be destructive when they are angry, "We can't do anything but...head for a fun park to bully people around, break windowpanes in the windowpane smasher place or wreck cars"(27). In the novel, the people use destruction to let out their anger, just like people in our society. Sometimes people get so angry they feel the need to destroy something. In contrast, Fahrenheit 451 is also different from modern society. People in the novel kill each other because they are so upset. In the book, Clarisse explains why she is scared of her peers by saying,"six of my friends have been shot in the last year alone. Ten of them died in car wrecks."(27) In the book, everyone is sad and angry with their lives and they take it out on other people and end up killing each other. In modern society, people get angry and hurt each other but there is a far less amount of people getting killed. In conclusion, there are many differences and similarities between society in the book and society in real life regarding the way people let out
