Mildred has abnormally pale skin and chemically burnt hair. She also has red pouting lips, and a very thin figure from dieting. This shows the reader that the society demands women to have an artificial beauty through dieting and hair dying. She is thirty years old; same age as Montag. Mildred is always seen with Seashell thimbles plugged into her ears.

She is the poster child for the average citizen in this this future world. She spends her days in front of three television screens and listening to Seashell radios, which allows her to not think. She falls asleep each night with the help of pills and music piped into her ears. Millie has no regards of life in general, as she tries to kill herself, overdosing on sleeping pills, and after recovering does not even recall the incident. Although she has time to talk with her friends and the “parlour family” she never finds time to talk with Montag. She cannot even remember the time or event in which she met her husband. Millie is horrified of Montag’s rebellion to the system and refuses to take part, eventually turning Montag in to the authorities. She then leaves Montag without a second thought and at the end of the novel is destroyed by the bomb that decimates the
