“If you would persuade, you must appeal to interest rather than intellect”-Benjamin Franklin. This quote accurately depicts the 4 main theories that persuasion econompasses: quality, quantity, relation, and manner of the information. Fahrenheit 451 is a dystopian book written by Ray Bradbury. Through his story he tries to show the use of technology and how it’s absorbing societies. Montag tries to persuade Mrs. Phelps and Mrs. Bowles to realize their negative actions by using pathos to make them feel bad and logos as a cause to start thinking. He gives examples of what all the women have done. His manner of persuading is not how most people attempt persuasion, for example, he yells and scolds the women. Although, some might argue that he has a very good reason to use this type of tone at these women. Montag uses pathos to create sadness to persuade Mrs. Bowles and Mrs. Phelps. He tries to insight his knowledge on the society to them and realizes that the society he lives in is absolutely insane. Phelps and Mrs.Bowles by using logos and pathos. Bringing up a rough past can be hard, but these women believe what they did, isn’t a big deal. It is rare to see on how they ignore death and think they can make everything better with a television. Bradbury emphasizes the TV a lot, to prove how technology has taken over. He also uses politics to show how the society makes decisions. The women vote for the candidate in the election on who is more handsome. They don’t look at the views or benefits this candidate could bring in to the society. Bradbury does an excellent job with describing how cruel and isolated the society
