The Renaissance was as period after the Middle Ages in Europe. In Europe during the Middle Ages most countries were ruled under a monarchy where the Monarchs were the judge, jury, and executioner when it came to trials and laws. However into the renaissance countries switched to more democratic and republican styles enabling fairer trials for the defendants. This period took time throughout Europe mainly in italy and great Britain during the 1400s and 1500s. During the Renaissance allowing more fair trials and not falsely prosecuted others were more highly valued which allowed juries and things of that type, however there were cruel punishments if found guilty.
