What caused the fall of Rome? This question has many answers. Some might say it was because of the disasters and disease while others say that it was the military's fault. It is not really clear which answer is correct but I believe that I have three reasons that could answer this age old question. To begin with, military weakness was one reason why rome fell. The military got lazy and drills were abandoned because of it. They ended up not wearing breastplates and helmets in battle. This allowed the other army to beat them by shooting arrows in there head.In Document B, historian Vegetius states, “But when, because of negligence and laziness, parade ground drills were abandoned, the customary armor began to seem heavy since the soldiers rarely ever wore it...So our soldiers fought the Goths without any protection for chest and head and were often beaten by archers.” This explains that the army is one factor that caused Rome to fall. Also, when the army was attacked and got shot, the rest of the army was exposed to wounds which made them think about running instead of fighting explains Vegetius. The empires made bad decisions that were hard to reverse. Once these decisions were made, it was hard to control the people of the empire and it could lead to chaos.One decision that explains this is that the Roman Empire acquired people that were not Roman and who didn’t want to be Roman. This, in turn, caused revolts and made the empire oversized which caused even more problems. According to the Background Essay, in paragraph four it states, “Controlling this expanded empire meant a larger army, which in turn meant a need for more food, clothing, weapons and supplies.” This shows that this bad decision cost Rome and it would be hard to reverse. This demand for new items could also make Rome owe a lot of money and could cause
