Imagine a world without care? Based on the novel, The Outsiders, S.E Hinton conveyed various themes. She proved that family and friends are always there during good and bad times, through the characters and their actions. The Greasers are always there to help their friends and family. This becomes clear when the events that took place in the novel The Outsiders are examined and viewed. For example, bonding with the family, being their for friends or gang members, taking care of siblings, and sacrificing lives for loved ones are some of the events that occurred throughout the novel The Outsiders.

Johnny saved Ponyboy and sacrificed his life while the timber and ashes were falling off the roof. For instance in the novel Ponyboy it states, “Johnny shoved me toward the window. ‘Get out!’ I leaped out the window and heard timber crashing and the flames roaring right behind me. I staggered, almost falling, coughing and sobbing for breath. Then I heard Johnny scream, and as I turned to go back for him.” In the novel Ponyboy proves that friends are there during the good and bad times because Johnny, a Greaser, sacrificed his life to help and save Ponyboy when he threw him out the broken window. Therefore, this is last example of family and friends being there through the good and bad times. The author, S.E Hinton, made many connections between the events, characters, and the message she stated to her readers in the novel, The Outsiders. It is clear when she conveyed to her readers that family and friends are around during the good and bad times. This message stands out when, Darry, Ponyboy, and Soda bonded together, Greasers were there for Ponyboy, Darry took care of his younger siblings, and Johnny sacrificed his life to save Ponyboy, throughout the novel The Outsiders.
