In the mental health field, family therapy has had more than over a decade of existence, providing extensive and solid history for comprehensive evidence based therapy. On the other hand, CD treatment sprung out in considerable isolation and its treatment model is still in progress. For instance, until the 1970s, substance abuse counselors completely rejected the mental health world’s view of alcohol abuse as a symptom of some underlying disorder rather than a primary disorder on its own account (TIP 39). In treating the individual, many experts in the addiction field have experienced and struggled how to keep the individual safe from going back to addict mode as they would complete his/her treatment and back to their familiar life where their primary routine was to use and/or drink prior to entering treatment. Many addicts also do not receive support or understanding from their support system during treatment, as they do not understand the concept of addiction. It is not uncommon for the identified person to relapse as the interaction between the identified person and the support system suddenly becomes unbalanced; both the individual and their family all of a sudden do not know how to behave in the world where drugs and alcohol do not exist. If the support system of the individual is another user, the peer pressure to use drugs can turn into threats and aggression, which then may turn into domestic violence issue. Treating substance abuse issue can be described as opening a Pandora’s box; individuals need a healthy support system to identify and overcome each issues while treating the disease
