Self-expression, what the world has evolved on. An art form, which for me is a way of life. Fashion allows me to show off exactly who I am without saying one word. I have always been fascinated how designers turn flat pieces of material into something that has life and body. That changes the mood, look and stance of a person, changing from decade to decade but always being a thing of beauty. Growing up, I first found my enchantment for sewing from my Nana (cliché I know) she taught me how to knit and cross-stitch when I was very small. I was taught basic sewing and pattern cutting. She made wedding dresses for every member of my family and I would just sit and watch in awe. Throughout my current course I have taken a real interest in fashion construction and pattern cutting. The idea of creating something from scratch fascinated me entirely and I fell in love with it. Although it can be quite challenging I continue to push myself to the best of my ability. I feel College has prepared me for University through the independent work ethic and quality of work expected. I undertook work experience at Oxford Fashion week as part of the backstage team. It was incredibly hard work but I gained an understanding of the many roles involved in running show; I really enjoyed learning different and new skills, as well as interacting with members of the public, design team and models while overcoming challenges.
