“Parents’ Actions Gone Wrong!”

Childhood obesity around the world, particularly in the United States, is an escalating problem that is especially harmful as its effects carry on into adulthood.
Obesity problems in children today come from the lack of physical activity children tend to just want to lay around and watch television instead of going outside and doing something active. Parents often let their children pick what they want to eat and when they see something that attracts them or what is popular to eat they want it.
Parents
need to take responsibility for their children's obesity problem.
There are several health problems children can occur if they are considered obese regardless if the parents think their children are obese or not.
“Childhood obesity is associated with various health related consequences obese children and adolescents may experience immediate health consequences and may be at risk for weight related health problems in adulthood.” (Wiley) Many health problems like heart disease that is caused by high cholesterol and/or high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, asthma, sleep apnea and social discrimination. In some cases the parents/guardians are wondering why and how their child has gotten to the point they are obese. “Because their parents or grandparents put too much food on their plates.”(Healthy Children) By all these problems happening to their children they could be taking a stand and manage their child’s intake and keep track of calories to keep a healthy diet going. They also should

be encouraging their children to go outside and get active and minimizing sedentary time. By teaching the children the proper way to stay healthy should be the parents responsibility. The amount of children that are suffering from obesity is increasing more and more. The only people who can fully take control over that is the parents/guardians.
“When a parent raises a child to eat out more than a few times a week, they should expect the child to begin having weight problems.” (WIley)
That is training your child to think its okay to eat fast food and so thats what they will always expect it, Instead of training them to eat home cooked meals that are healthy that have the appropriate items for a natural diet so they can stay healthy and not end up obese.
“Strollers, car seats, high chairs and bouncer seats all keep kids safe. But using them excessively can also keep kids from getting the exercise they need and reinforce the idea that it's okay to be sedentary.”(CBS News) Raising your kids like that sets them up to have a high chance of being obese. It is proven that it’s best to teach your kids when they are youngest about healthy habits so they get into that instead of having to try and get into the habit when they are older and use to eating and doing what they want.
Some parents aren’t stabled they are low income families.
“We can’t have anything perishable in the shelter. So, the girls never get enough fruits or vegetables.
We don’t have a stove or a fridge.” (Wiley)
In that mother’s case she doesn’t have her own home and her own fridge to be able to purchase groceries and put them in the fridge to keep them in so they don’t go bad. The parents that are more stabled sometimes may have the problem of being able to afford healthy groceries with all their

bills like the house payment. They have a choice basically being able to have their own home or being able to buy healthy groceries for their family. “If $11 of apples equals two snacks, but $3 in Ramen will feed her entire family for dinner, how can she possibly pick apples with her limited food stamp budget?”
(Wiley) Sometimes unhealthy food is all people can get because they have a certain budget they have to stick around. It’s either a few apples as snacks or an actual meal for the family.
