"Man in the Black Suit" Short Essay This main theme that I noticed in this story is fear, Gary is constantly living in fear since the moment he met the man in the black suit. The incident takes place when Gary is 9 years old, but he writes this story when he is about 90. He is writing because he says it gives him freedom and release although he doesn’t think anyone will believe that he met the devil. The first example of his fear is when he wakes up from his sleep and notices a bee on his nose. The bee shows up quite a bit in the story, because his brother died from a bee sting the summer before. Also the devil told Gary that he mother had just been stung and killed by a bee. Gary was scared by the bee on his nose, and suddenly believed that it was the same exact bee that had killed his brother. He knew that this was impossible, but convinced himself that it was some sort of special “devil-bee”. Then he heard someone clap and saw the bee died instantly. …show more content…
