In The Book Thief, Fear plays a huge role as it the main cause of actions. Fear that is not specifically talked about is fear of death from soldiers and Jews already in concentration camps. Throughout the book Max lives in fear of being found and sent to a concentration camp. Liesel and her family lives in fear that they too will be sent to a concentration camp for housing and hiding a jew. They also are afraid they won’t have enough money to support everyone.
