The political group that took the country by storm (figuratively, of course) were the Federalists. The company in favor of one united nation were very influential with their powerful people, Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay, and their persuasive papers (*cough* Federalist Papers *cough*). The Federalist association commenced in refusal to the Democratic-Republican association in America during President George Washington’s first reign. Known for their allegiance to a strong national government, the Federalists reiterated commercial and diplomatic unity with Britain ensuing the signing of the 1794 Jay Treaty. The association divided over agreements with France during President John Adams’s presidency, though it remained a constitutional
