Female Representation In Professional STEM Position

Over the years, there has been an increasing amount of women in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (commonly known collectively as STEM) fields. However, the numbers are still tremendously low. In fact, in 2007, women earned only 17 percent of degrees in engineering, whereas they earned 79 percent of degrees in education. In universities across the United States, only 15 percent of tenure-track positions in mathematics and only 27 percent of tenure-track positions in all STEM positions are held by women. Traditionally, men have overtaken STEM majors at universities around the globe, and there is a severe lack of female representation in the professional STEM environment.
