Feminism: Misunderstood Ideology In Today's Society

Feminism is a commonly misunderstood ideology in today’s society. Depending on how you look at it, feminism can be two different things. It can be a movement for women's equality, or a movement against patriarchy. Although some may presume that men can't be feminists, women who wear revealing clothing are anti-feminist, and American feminists are complaining about nothing, none of these are true in the slightest.
Many people believe that men cannot be feminists, but this is entirely false. According to DoSomething.org, “Feminism is defined as the belief in the social, political, and economic equality of the sexes. ("11 Facts About Feminism | Dosomething.Org | Volunteer For Social Change") This means that if a man was so inclined, he is equally able to be a feminist because he may feel oppressed in ways that the women aren't. NOMAS(National Organization of Men Against Sexism) states that “It is crucial for men to be a part of feminist agency. Women in the US have plenty to complain about including wage gap, rape culture, slut shaming, unrealistic expectations, social inequality, and violence against women, just to name a few. Each of these issues are noticeably prevalent in today's society. It is very common to find slut-shaming in middle and high schools, rape culture in schools and on the streets, social media, and in the courtroom. Unrealistic expectations can be found in most ads, stores, magazines and many other places. Wage gap is found in almost every single business category. A white woman makes 78 cents to a man's dollar while african american and hispanic women follow with 64 cents and 56 cents per white man's dollar” ("The Wage Gap").Women in America actually have a lot to go up against, but some people are too ignorant of the society around
