Major League Baseball was founded in the late eighties and since its discovery it has been a craze all across the United States. At first Baseball was only for the whites and therefore all the colored people didn’t even have a chance at making it to the Majors. Troy Maxson form the play Fences written by August Wilson, is a prime example of an amazing baseball player who was not able to enjoy the game because of the color of his skin. Troy Maxson loved Baseball and Segregation in the sport is what held him back from fulfilling his dream which ultimately is the reason he is cruel and treats people disrespectfully. Major League baseball became a hit in the late 1800s and early 1900s but the only problem was that only whites could join the Major League. The segregation that Troy faced is the contributing factor in the way that he interacts with people. Troy seems to skeptic he doesn’t believe that whites and blacks will be integrated and his experience when he was younger is the main reason for that. When Troy played baseball and he wasn’t fairly treated while doing something he was very passionate about it took a toll on him and psychologically effected him. He was basically shunned from the one thing he enjoyed most in life. This traumatic experience has opened Troy’s eyes to all the segregation that is quite evident throughout the play. TROY. I went to Mr. Rand and asked him, 'Why? Why you got white mens driving and the colored lifting? (1.1.1719). Troy is speaking of the segregation at his work place as a garbage collector he is telling his boss how all the whites drive the trucks while all the blacks have to lift the bins into the truck and empty them. He is asking why the whites have the easier job then the
