Feral Cats Persuasive Speech

Last week, I had my final presentation for professional speaking on the topic ‘Australia should cull its feral cat population to protect its native species’. The topic was something that I was unaware of and had to first research on what exactly is happening in Australia regarding the feral cats. Firstly, I researched on what is a feral cat. According to Wikipedia, “A feral cat is a cat that has been born to other ferals or from stray cats as opposed to domesticated cats” [1]. I moved on to understanding why Australia is planning to take such an extreme step. On my first few searches I read multiple newspaper articles which had stories about the culling of feral cats. I came across a newspaper article from iflscience which had a title “Australia will cull two million feral cats to protect native animals”. The article talks about why Australia has planned to cull its feral cut population. So, Australia’s native species are threatened because of the feral cat. These cats are on a rampage and go about killing various native animals. Due to this, lot of species have become extinct and some of them have become endangered. Having a picture of the feral cat in the presentation will help my audience on picturing the animal every time I mentioned the cats. I moved on to defining the cats that I just showed a picture of. As I mentioned above, I just presented the definition of feral cats and how did they originate in the continent. I gave evidence on how many cats are there presently to ensure that there is a number in front of the audience to mark the gravity of the situation. Having numbers as evidence is always effective if the number is extremely high. Next I presented evidence on how many animals they kill in a single day as estimated in the Action Plan for Australian Mammals published in 2014
