How do you express the importance of Field Placement (practical learning) to others? My social work education has been very interesting, so much to learn and read. It has helped me appreciate the profession, the history and the challenges. It is an education that helps create self awareness and self reflection. It has helped me have a better understanding of issues like marginalization, ordering, social inequalities amongst other interesting topics. It highlights the role of the Professional Association and the ethics of the profession. The role of the social worker in the community, and various clients of the social worker. The role of the social worker includes counseling, offering solutions to clients’ challenging situation and being the voice of the clients; and working with government establishments to address social challenges and injustice. The social worker also criticizes government policies and issues regarding funding where it does not adequately meet the needs of the communities. The education is based on knowledge, research and practice to equip all students with critical analysis skills to be responsive to the economic, social and political conditions in locations of practice and worldwide. Especially in the face of mounting social inequalities and eroding social welfare services.
