For my film review 4, I watched the Eyes on the Prize: Fighting Back documentary, part 2 of 14. The subject of this film is about the attempt to desegregate the school system in Little Rock Arkansas. The film begins with a speech by Orval Faubus discussing what is happening in America. Then, the film continues talking about the segregation in America. After the film shows President Dwight D. Eisenhower, that is when Little Rock is brought up. After this, the film shifts completely to discussing the Little Rock Nine. It talks about how nine of the smartest teenagers would now go to high school at Little Rock Central High. Then, the film shows the different teenagers and how they were treated. The film states that each teenager had an escort between classes so that they would not get bullied. However, the escorts could not follow them everywhere. Then, schools were closed to halt integration and troops were brought in to protect people. Then, four girls were brought into white schools. At the end of the documentary, an African American teenage boy was finally admitted into Ole Miss. …show more content…
However, there are many parts of this documentary that are told in a first person point of view by students who went through integration and also other people who were involved in Little Rock and also de-segregation itself. This point of view gives the audience a more real feel to the time period. This documentary does in fact have a clear thesis. Although this film provided a great amount of information about de-segregation and the Little Rock Nine, it also goes deeper than this. The main point of this documentary was to show the struggles and harassment that colored children had to go through in order to go to school.
