Figurative Language In John Knowles A Separate Peace

Peace? War? Both are present. In A separate peace by John knowles, the author uses figurative language to show war and peace throughout the story. There are many instances where war occurred and then peace has followed. Or where peace was present and war had broke out and needed to be prepared for.
The first example of this is when war was threatening to break in and destroy the fragile peace throughout genes time at Devon. The summer session was the peaceful part and when the fall session started and the summer one ended it was the part that represents war. It was really starting to hit everyone when they were told it was time for things to change, it was getting colder outside and and and in their hearts as well. Hearing war was near made everything around them less peaceful. Gene even said that the class above them, were already basically soldiers. “The class above, seniors, draft-bait, practically soldiers, rushed ahead of us toward the war.” This means the war was coming into reality too soon.
The second example is when childhood and adulthood were at play. The peace was when they were young and and free to do whatever they wanted to with hardly any responsibilities and things to worry about. Which ended with the tragic accident where Finny fell out of the tree. Gene was saying it pushed him and let him fall because he is jealous of him. He wants to be more like Finny with things coming easy and not having to study hard. And being good at every sport he tries without even wanting any recognition.
