June 9, 1960, the church fire, was probably one of the most scariest but live saving events to happen in this book, The Outsiders, it was like it just happened out of nowhere. Having the chruch catch on fire was also one of the most exciting things at the same time. This gave Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dally a chance to show everyone why they are and never will be criminals and are good people and willing to help out their community in any way possible.

Ever since the other night, Johnny and Ponyboy were freaking out but didn't want to show it, especially in front of Darry. They went to Dally for help and all Dally said was to run away. So they listen to dally and went along with it and Dally ended up tagging along as well. On their “last day” in their town they went to church because there was a huge mass and everyone was gonna be there and they all wanted to see everyone before they run away. At the same time they also didn't want anyone to see them that was there last night when everything went down and have Johnny get arrested.

When they had arrived at the church they were acting very secretive and didn't want to show their identity. Sooner or later there were cameramen showing up to broadcast the huge crush ceremony. And lucky enough Johnny, Ponyboy, and Dally walked

There were still little kids playing inside on a field trip. This church was a small town church so everyone knew everyone. As Jonny and them were walking out, someone yells THE BUILDING IS ON FIRE!!!!!!!! Everyone goes into panic mode and no one wants to go in and see if everyone is okay because everyone else is sacred to go in. So Johnny thinks that if he goes in and saves the kids then he can be know as a hero and not a criminal. So Johnny goes up and tells everyone to stay calm and says, “I'm going to fix everything and everything will be okay.” after Johnny goes in POnyboy follows and a couple minutes later… Dally joins them inside the burning
