Neuman see’s the person as constantly interacting with the environmental stressors to try and maintain the equillibrium between wellness and illness. Although the variation of stressors they encounter depends where they fall on the equilibrium. Both theories view health as a whole entitity that is effected by differeent variables. However, contrastly Florence Nightingale’s view on health is more of a relative state which varies for each individual throughout their life, rather than Neuman’s idea that wellness is equated to health, and that the client system is either ill, well, or somehwere inbetween. It is not viwed as a relative state. (Neuman, 1996, p. 69).

Florence Nightingale’s theory was a pivotol part of creating the current nursing process, better known for the pnumonic of ADPIE or, assessment, diagnosis, planning, implemantation, and evaluation. Her understanding and conceptualization of the ‘person’ within the theory has guided current nursing practices, particularly how the nursing process is being implimented. Her understanding of the person as a whole, as opposed to simply identifying the medical diagnosis, has shaped current nursing practices and improved the knowledge of the nursing profession. Betty Neuman also made siginicant impacts on the currenty nursing care practices in regards to her theory, in addition to adding to the knowledge base of the nursing profession. Neuman’s theory has made it possible to think of the ‘person’ as more than just the patient receiving the nursing care. It is with the implimentation of her theory that the ‘person’ is more than just the patient, it could be the family, a group, or a community as a whole. Which, has allowed current nurses’ to learn the importance of caring not just for the patient, but also the family, friends, or whomever they may be with. It brings up idea of public health nursing and looking at it as a system. Specifically, how the actions of the nurses using her nursing intervetions can help prevent any potential
