From Antigone, by the classical Greek playwright Sophocles, the wise Teiresias observes “Think: all men make mistakes, but a good man yields when he knows his course is wrong, and repair the evil: the only crime is pride.” I disagree with Teiresias observation owing to the fact that there are many many athletes, celebrities, and successful people that owe their success to their pride. Professional boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr., UFC fighter Conor McGregor, and musician and fashion designer Kanye West, all due to their extensive amount of pride have succeeded in life and made a living. Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr.’s pride assisted him to become one of the greatest and wealthiest athletes in the world. When he was a teen he dropped out of high school to concentrate on his passion. Many people didn’t believe he could make it but he never let them destroy his pride and confidence. Once Mayweather became a professional boxer his pride came into play by causing so much attention to himself with his luxurious life and his smack talking skills.
