Fluffernutters: An Essay on Talents, Interests, and Sandwiches Sticky, marshmallowy goop smothered my hands and face, but I did not mind. Thick peanut butter entrapped my fingers in a viscous webbing. Nothing, not even the cacophonous chatter of the first grade lunchroom, could divert my attention away from the delectable taste of the rich, creamy Fluffernutter sandwich in my hands. Although deliciously palatable, Fluffernutters unfortunately lack in nutritional content, so it was a rare occasion when I was allowed to partake in such a delicacy. What I now refer to as complementary goods of low supply and high demand, Fluffernutters and juice boxes used to represent the zenith of a six-year-old’s understanding of bliss.
Although now I consume my sandwiches in a much neater fashion, I still fervently crave to dive right in and get my hands dirty. Whether I am programming artificial intelligence algorithms for computer science competitions, teaching mental math concepts to my classmates, or starting an educational chess class for elementary schoolers, I am never afraid to immerse myself into new things I enjoy and can grow

Leading others, trying new things, and getting my hands dirty is in large part a reflection of my identity. My favorite childhood sandwich, aside from the bread, required only two simple ingredients. Although peanut butter and marshmallow spread both taste fantastic on their own, the juxtaposition of the two generates a dynamic flavor combination. I perceive creativity and initiative in the same way, for both are needed to create a dynamic individual. For this reason, I strive to be a leader as well as a listener, a student and a teacher, a friend and a role model.
