Follow a Thought Leader
Blake Mycoskie is the Founder and Chief Shoe Giver of TOMS, and the person behind the idea of One for One, a business model to help a person in need with every product purchased. I first saw this man in a magazine on plane. I read his story and think this man is really respectful. When I got home, I went to TOMS online store and viewed the entire product they have and I bought one. I have to say, their shoes are not only pretty, but also really confortable. I definitely will choose to wear a pair of TOMS during traveling or any chance that need me walk a lot.
The biggest thing that impressed me about Blake Mycoskie and his company is the One for One program. As I mentioned before, it is a business model when a customer buys one pair of TOMS, he will donate another pair of TOMS to people in need. The magazine I read says that this simple idea has grown into a global movement: TOMS shoes has provided over 10 million pairs of shoes to children since 2006. I think that was something huge and really impressed me. Professor Jackson from OBHR330 class has also showed us a video of Blake Mycoskie went to Africa and donates shoes for children, and also wears shoes for them on his knees. Those scenes really moved me. Charity if always my dream, I also want to help people in need like what Blake did. Even now I’m not rich and only have limited power, I still go to orphanage once I got holidays, to bring milk and clothes for children. So when Professor Jackson asked us to choose to follow a thought leader, I chose Blake Mycoskie without hesitation.
I followed him through Facebook and Twitter. He doesn’t post frequently, and almost all of his posts are about charity. He even made a birthday wish to raise $200,000 in charity.
Since he doesn't post a lot and almost doesn’t post anything about himself, I had have to do some research to get know this man. His major in college is marketing, which is the same with me. I believe he is a good model for me, because he is not only a successful businessman, also a successful philanthropist. The goal of my life is to be someone like
