When Pearl kissed Dimmesdale, he had forgiven himself. A little later, it shows that the people of New England had forgiven him. Through-out the story, it is shown that god had forgiven Dimmesdale as as well. From the obvious proof, I believe that Dimmesdale was forgiven. The people were shown to have forgiven him when he embraced Pearl and Hester in front them, for they didn't show anger. While they were surprised, the people of New England showed Dimmesdale sympathy, pity, and a little disgust. "To the people, whose great heart was thoroughly appalled yet overflowing with tearful sympathy, as knowing that some deep life-matter--which, if full of sin, was full of anguish and repentance likewise,". The quote from the book effectively explains that the people had forgiven Dimmesdale for his sin. A second reason that they had forgiven him is shown when the people buried Hester next to Dimmesdale, under the same tombstone. "It was near that old and sunken grave, yet with a space between, as if the dust of the two sleepers had no right to mingle. Yet one tombstone served for both."
