The ideas of guilt/regret/forgiveness play an enormous role in the novel “A Thousand Splendid Suns” by Khaled Hosseini. The author implements this theme into this story in a manner that makes provokes many varieties of imagery and produces a heat-rendering connection with its readers. Guilt, regret and forgiveness change the dynamic of the characters that opens new avenues of possibilities as well as experiences. This emotion is especially visible in times of depression, seen more often through characters that have faced an immense number of hardships such as Lalia and Mariam.
Mariam near the end of her life, had faced an immense amount of reminiscing on the past and having to analyze her situation and was was left to make of it. To illustrate, Mariam st one point reflects back on the day Jalil, her father, had spent his day parked in front of Mariams’ house in Herat next to her Mercedes-Benz.
