Forgiveness In The Kite Runner

The Kite Runner is a novel in which the author, Hosseini, establishes Hassan, the servant and half-brother of Amir, as a symbol of loyalty and forgiveness. The novel is encompassed around Amir, the narrator and main character; as a child, Amir yearns for the affection from Baba, Amir’s father, and betrays Hassan due to Amir’s cowardness. Throughout Amir’s life, he betrays his close ones and regrets his actions. The Kite Runner displays symbolism of Hassan through events such as Hassan taking the blame for Amir, forgiving his mother named Sanaubar, and indirectly absolving Amir. “If I fought, that dog would have surely put a bullet in me, and gladly… not because I fear death, but because my wife has a husband and my son is not an orphan” (Hosseini 216). This conveys Hassan forgives Amir for not doing anything to stop Hassan from getting hurt. There was a time where Hassan was getting sexually assaulted by Assef, a boy who agreed with Hitler’s ideas and later becomes a Taliban that rapes children; Amir had admitted to space that he had watched Hassan get sexually violated (Hosseini 86). Hassan had known Amir had witnessed the molestation; Hassan knew Amir also pretended as if he hadn’t seen anything. Since Hassan tells Amir an event of how he couldn’t stop a Taliban from hitting his wife, Farzana, he indicates that he knew Amir didn’t stop hassan from getting raped. Hassan also states the reasons he couldn’t help Farzana are due to the fact that his wife would be without a husband and his son would be without his father. Hassan is implicating that he had reasons to why he didn’t stop Farzana from getting beat; He is also giving Amir an excuse to why Amir didn’t stop Hassan from getting molested. This heightens the idea that Amir is of supreme power in Hassan’s eyes as Hassan is saying he knew Amir had his reasons,which means that Hassan is immensely loyal to Amir and wouldn’t
