The battles included in this essay had important roles in this War. Each battle was major for their own specific reasons. When the Confederates attacked Fort Sumter they started one of the bloodiest wars in ever in the United states history. When the Confederates won they believed they had a chance to win, but it also showed the Union to not take this rebellion lightly anymore. After stopping the advanced if Southern forces at Gettysburg the North left their army weak and their moral low, which turned the tide in the Unions favor. After the final battle at Palmito Ranch the Southern forces in the Trans-Mississippi region surrendered two weeks after their victory. This surrender basically made the War a Union victory.
