Found In Mark's Mathabane

As found in Mathabane (1986) Chapter 21, Mark has finally gotten all his paperwork and his mother has found a way to have him enrolled in a school. He does not understand what he needs to get education for because the boys in the streets explained to him that it is useless. However, on his first day, his aunt, granny, and mother make sure that he gets to school no matter what demonstrating to him how important this is for his family except his father. Yet, after having a revelation on his reasons why he doesn’t want to be enrolled in school he comes home to find out his mom had been beaten by his father. The reason behind it is his education.
