Foundations of mythology Amber Young Hum/105 Megge Fitz-Randolph

Mythology is defined as the myths of a particular group of people or culture who believe in ideas that are believed by many people but that are not true. Mythology seems to be several tales that have been told but in reality does anyone think it is the honest truth? Once stories are retold, are you getting the exact same story, or is it someone who tells their version of the tale? These type of tales can be very tricky but then again we are born with these somewhat false stores and only believed them because of personal experiences. Many people wonder how the word “myth” is used popularly. Well it varies for some instances such for example, the statement, “it’s a myth” meaning in contrast, with how the word “myth” used in the academic context? After considering the definition provided by Meriam Webster’s dictionary, The term “myth” is popularly used in reference of something false, ( In ones own opinion) similarly to urban legend, rumor or hoax. A current example of a “myth” would include the “myth” about Coca-Cola and how it can dissolve an individual’s body, or how there is such a thing about a black cat bringing above bad luck. In contrast, a “myth” is an ancient story or narrative that explains enduring, fundamental human questions (Referred in Greek mythology passages). Examples of the many questions would include: why can a person not see the sun during the night or the stars during the day? How did our universe come to be? How should individuals behave, and what is the repercussion if an individual behaves differently? Many “myths” were brought about to answer all these questions and many more. I would define a “myth” as a tale that individuals created in ancient times to answer important questions that they lacked the necessary scientific knowledge to grasp otherwise.
The most common mythological themes in cultures refer cultures and spiritual beliefs. These are the two strongest area among cultural differences mainly because when we are born religion is forced upon and it also plays a huge part in who we become as we grow older. Many cultures from around the world address the similar themes in “myths” because individuals tend to have the same concerns about themselves, their intentions with the universe, and the purpose of life. A culture must develop viable ways to balance individuals' self-interests with the community’s needs, which can be a great challenge because human societies are made up of individuals and groups with different interests.(Which in my opinion coincides with mythology) Typically, the dominant group’s interests are most influential and better served by a culture globally and lifeway’s than are the interests of other subordinated groups within a culture.
There are many distinctive aspects of mythology and they seek to describe what a particular person or society believe during that period of time. Myths serves as a charter for their institutions, customs and beliefs. The typical mythology is the explanation of the universe and its ethology. Normally,
