Fountas and Pinnell is a level reading program designed to best suit the need of the students. This program allows the students to read books based on their reading ability. In order to assign reading levels the teacher must first evaluate the student’s ability by having the student read a leveled passage. Based on these results the student is assigned a letter indicating which level the student’s reading abilities are currently at. In addition, to assessing the student’s reading ability Fountas and Pinnell also assesses the student’s comprehension levels by asking certain questions to gage the student’s understanding.
