Four Paragraph Essay Did you know that in 1892, an incident occurred in which involved a so-called ‘vampire.’ In Exeter, Rhode Island, a girl named Mercy Brown had a disease named Tuberculosis. It ended up killing her and she was buried. However, many believed that the disease was spread due to the ‘undead.’ They dug up Mercy’s grave and found out she was seemed perfectly undecomposed. People took this as a sign that the undead was influencing the spread of Tuberculosis, and burned her body. Both stories have the creepy mood, but only in the very first few sentences in the story are calm before the creepy mood begins after the Ben, Amy, and Rob meet Lena. For example, on page 10 it says,”Three friends ring a doorbell. An elderly lady opens the door.” And after that Rob, Ben, and Amy says trick-or-treat and get their candy. Also,”They watch as a mother drags a screaming toddler dressed as a pumpkin to the next house.” This supports my evidence because the story is showing that it’s Halloween A lot of people (and kids) enjoy Halloween.. And when the toddler is mentioned, it creates a calm mood to show that everyone is out trick-or-treating and having fun. In contrast, in the ending of the story, the mood becomes scarier than it was before due to the whole ‘cemetery’ setting and that Lena is acting more and more intense. For example, on page 13 it says,”Mercy was not a vampire. The people just didn’t understand the disease. They were afraid, and they acted out of panic. But their ritual had an unintended result. Opening the body and burning all the organs released Mercy’s spirit, dooming her to wander sad and alone all the time-” This supports my evidence because the mystery girl, Lena, seems to be defending Mercy’s death and becoming really intense about it until she starts coughing.
