Abstract Parenting styles have a huge affect on children’s development from the very beginning. From when the fetus matures it can recognize noises and can sense when you are stressed and not up to par. Behavioral and social development can be based on parents actions and how much you control your child’s life. Parenting has a huge impact on all aspects of children’s growth and development in all shapes and forms such as, how children are treated and how they act in a social environment. There are a variety of phases that parents use while raising their children. These phases are broken down into four separate categories. Authoritarian parenting tends to be a more controlling and hostile environment with a lack of communication that is particularly important in a child social and behavioral development process. As mentioned in riggings article, “The authoritarian parent may be punitive and is likely to believe in the spare the rod, spoil the child rule” (Riggins Paragraph 1). Authoritative parenting inspires their children to be independent and take on their own actions and risks with a respectable amount of rules to help lead the child in the right direction in life, as well as becoming a mature adult. Permissive parenting typically have a very laid back attitude and very few rules for the child to abide too. The adolescent would tend to have less self-control and more self-entitlement with a lot of creativity to offer. Lastly, neglectful parenting is a parenting style where the parent is hardly involved in the child’s life. The kids manage to watch a significant amount of television and video games to keep them distracted.
