Fracking has attracted a lot of attention over the past years and is a highly controversial issue due to the hugely negative impact it is having on the environment. Whilst scores of fossil fuel companies have, and still claim, that fracking has been exercised harmlessly and without any danger for many decades, we in fact know a remarkably small amount about the long-term impacts it has on our environmental. Numerous advances in technology and economics have made fracking on significantly greater scales than ever before attainable for fossil fuel companies. This makes our present day fracking a considerably different process than those used in the years past. Although under-the-table, these same companies have cautioned their investors that …show more content…
Well, in order to frack, an immense amount of water is mixed with various toxic chemical compounds in order to create frack fluid. This frack fluid is then even further contaminated by the heavy metals and radioactive elements that already exist naturally in the shale. A significant portion of the frack fluid then proceeds to return to the surface, where it can spill or be dumped into rivers, streams, etc. Underground water supplies can also be contaminated by fracking, through migration of gas and frack fluid underground.

Here are some opinions i gained from some people I interviewed:

“My opinion is that fracking should be banned! We need to be spending more money and time developing alternative energy resources such as solar power and wind power! Not to mention wasting a precious resource of water in such a contentious way! “

“Look I'm not 100% I know everything there is to know about fracking but I do know it causes terrible changes to environment in water streams and such and can kill lots of wildlife. But on the other hand I know it's a pretty crucial in extracting a lot of the worlds oil and gas supplies so unless there are better alternatives which I'm not aware of I can't see it being stopped any time soon. The ideal situation would be to minimise the use of oil and gas in the first place I.e solar and wind power but it will come with time and technology
