Diary of Anne Frank

In the time of the holocaust the Frank family and several others spent over two years in hiding to save themselves from the slow death of a concentration camp. According to the play written by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, eight people crowded into a secret annex above a office building. Full of nothing but hope that things will soon get better. Relationships developed and burned but the one thing they all had in common was their desire for peace and love in Amsterdam, Germany. As time passed many historical events that occurred outside the secret annex influenced the moods and relationships for the characters.
The first influenced relationship was Anne’s and Perter’s. It states in the play. “I don’t agree at all. I think you're pretty.” (Hackett pg. 172). When the two characters first met their relationship started out as tease and mock, but soon developed into a liking of eachother. Because of all the time that they spent in the secret annex their relationship changed for the better instead of the worse. When Peter and Anne first met neither of them had a clue that they would have any more than a friend relationship. In the play is says. “I never thought i’d live to see the day when a man like Mr.Frank would have to go into hiding…” (Hackett pg. 110). This change the mood in the secret annex because it took the hope that one day they may exit the annex and be free. The people living in the annex have nothing but dreams that in the future things will get better, and when this was said it made the characters realize the harsh sad reality that they live in. Even though they don’t fully understand the meaning of going into hiding yet, they do know that it’s going to be a rough and suspense full time in the secret
