France, a powerful nation admired for our perseverance and patriotism, currently faces a dilemma unlike any other before. Modern day globalization has created not only new problems, but problems of new magnitudes. Because of these growing numbers, resources are being squandered. For example, the cost of asylum has risen to two billion dollars in recent years (republicain.fr). Our obligations in schools are not to favor nor to protect one ethnicity more than others but rather to create a neutral, leveled environment that emphasizes learning. Such is obtained by secularism and equality, which reinforce and complement one another. To fix issues associated with ethnicities feeling discriminated against because of school codes, specifically regarding lacite, there are steps that can be taken to preserve the effective system while fixing the collateral damage. Ultimately the solution lies not with changing the system entirely but working to make sure that all ethnicities feel welcome and French, be it through the system or by outside changes. First steps should include better communication. The public needs to be aware that laws passed against ostentatious religious wear are not a means to facilitate discrimination but come from a benevolence towards all French citizens, and about the fact that the hijab violates French neutrality, as many people are unclear about why the hijab is strictly opposed. Schools celebrate calendars that are largely tethered to Christian holidays, in the pursuit of peace and compromise some Islam and Jewish holidays should also find their
