Frank Lloyd Wright When it comes to architecture and interior design, the most written about and famous American to ever be in this profession is undoubtedly Frank Lloyd Wright. This is proven by the fact that since Michelangelo, Wright was the only person to have as much written about him and his work as he did. He is also called the most important architect of the 20th century and the most important American architect to ever live. Having designed around 800 buildings, he built quite the resumé with iconic designs that included Fallingwater and the Guggenheim museum. Being that these two buildings are his designs, it’s quite easy to tell why he is held in such high esteem. This is also a prime example of Wright’s Prairie Style of architecture. The house itself is built in Mill Run, Pennsylvania on the Bear Run stream. The house belonged to the Kauffman family whose original idea was to build a house that just looked over the stream and its waterfalls. Wright’s plan was to actually incorporate the stream into the house’s design, which would be situated beneath the waterfall. Through his organic architecture, he sought out to build a home for the family that would leave the landscape as beautiful as it was before the house was there. Although the waterfall isn’t visible from the house, Wright wanted the Kauffman’s to have the creek integrated into their lives. Frank Lloyd also used his ability to parallel the interior of buildings with the exterior. He used this ability to match the colors of the interior with the exterior surroundings.
