Francis Albert Sinatra was an iconic singer and actor from the 40’s all the way to his death. In the 40’s and 50’s, he defined the swing era. He was born December 12, 1915 in Hoboken, New Jersey. He was born the only child of Sicilian immigrants.
He came out at about 13.5 pounds. His parents were Natalina “Dolly” Garaventa and Anthony Martin Sinatra. Frank was so big that the doctor had to tug him out with forceps and by doing so they scarred some of baby Frank’s check and neck. Also puncturing his ear drum, which was later corrected by plastic surgery. Sinatra had that scar the rest of his life even though it was often covered with makeup. He drank and did drugs and had an alleged crime history that he denied all his life. In February 1961 Director J Edgar Hoover sent a memo to the United States Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy (President JFK’s brother) telling him to watch out for who his brother had been hanging out with, which would be Frank Sinatra. Hoover said he had gotten an anonymous complaint that FS had paid $40,000 to get out of the draft. He also said Frank had "reportedly been associated with or lent his name to sixteen organizations which have been cited or described as communist fronts". Some alleged criminal associates of Sinatra were Joseph and Rocco Fischetti (Al Capone’s cousins), New Jersey crime boss Willie Moretti, James Tarantino who was himself an associate of gangster Bugsy Siegel, Mickey Cohen of Los Angeles, and finally reigning Chicago boss Sam Giancana. It was said that the police even found Sinatra’s private phone number in Sam’s wallet when he was arrested in 1958. All allegations of anything illegal Sinatra denied.
