Journal 2 While I read Frankenstein the one literary device that stuck out to me was, Mary’s use of symbolism with nature having a healing effect on victor and other characters. This technique is obvious in chapters six, nine, and ten because characters would go outside and feel better because of the fresh air and the beautiful nature. In chapter six Victor and Henry go on a walk through the environment of Ingolstadt and after the walk Victor says, ““We passed a fortnight in these perambulations: my health and spirits had long been restored, and they gained additional strength from the salubrious air I breathed” (Shelly 67). She also uses it in chapters nine and ten when Victor goes on an expedition to the valley of Chamounix and it lifts his spirits (Shelly 90). Her use of symbolism is relatable for me because when I get stressed or don’t feel good I usually will go outside and take a walk to clear my head and that will make me feel better. The first similarity between Victor and Prometheus is that both create something (victor created his monster, and Prometheus created mankind) (Isenegger). The second similarity between the two is that they both suffer because of their creations (Isenegger). Prometheus has his liver eaten every day and victor is contentiously tormented by his monster, and Victor belives that the monster is hunting down all the members of his family (Isenegger). Third, both Victor and Prometheus abandon their creations for certain reasons (Isenegger).
